How Does Fashion Influence the

Lives of Students?

We are in the age of fashion and fashion has a great influence on our lives. In fact, it adds diversity to our lives by providing a facet of enthusiasm to seek out something new and different, otherwise our lives could be meaningless if we were expected to dress and act the same.

Fashion is the expression of a particular style, whether in clothes, shoes, accessories or make-up. It is the concept of doing something, looking different and behaving with others. It encompasses a wide range of categories such as behaviour, speech, actions, manners and lifestyle. Fashion and clothing are the subject of much intellectual discussion and their importance in today's society. Fashion and clothing are often defined as elements that hold our society together. Fashion is often defined as an existing norm or kind of dress, manners and way of socialising, while clothes are defined as collective clothing. If fashion and clothing were eliminated from our lives, there would be no room for individuality and the world's population would therefore be equivalent. There would also be a loss of the distinctions between social classes, which were very defined in the 18th century but remain present today. The eradication of fashion and clothing would also change the dynamics of the social world and social relations.

The term 'mod', short for 'modern', refers to a youthful way of life that originated in London in the 1960s and quickly spread to other parts of the world. Being fashionable is not only desirable but also satisfying. It is very common for young students to become interested in fashion first and to start following trends instantly, so fashion has a strong influence on our youth. Fashion has a continuous influence on society. It affects our views and attitude towards social culture. We introduce new ways of life through fashion and we become aware within ourselves of the need to re-establish a new line of customs. Malcolm Barnard says in his book Fashion as Communication, "Fashion and clothing have always been explained as a kind of communication" (39). Students use fashion to exchange their feelings and beliefs. They use fashion as a means of social contact with regard to examining all kinds of people. Fashion can be a means of communication to convey to the world what their personality really says.

The 1920s is called the age of flamboyant youth because of its wild and jazzy expression. During this period, youthful energy was unleashed in a new way and no style seemed too ridiculous to become high fashion. Our world has become globalized. Celebrities play an essential role in the lives of young people. Students look to their favourite icons to keep up with the times. By watching television or using the internet, they will easily be attracted to a range of fashionable concepts. In addition, students idealise their favourite celebrities and always want to look like them in order to do their best to emulate their idols' look and lifestyle. They try to understand all the fashion prevailing in their society to strengthen their personality. Whenever they socialise, they mention new things that can be adapted. They use unnatural modes of expression, speech and behaviour in their daily life, which is comparatively artificial.

From my point of view, there are two categories, namely the positive and negative impact of fashion on students.

Fashion in our society has a lot of negative impact on students. They only believe in the new fashion and this leads them to spend inordinate amounts of money. As a result, they are unable to be aware of other important needs in life. This always distracts them from studying. As soon as a method or fashion becomes trendy, it is instantly sought after by the student community, no matter how much trouble it causes. On the other hand, they are caught up in the confusion of fashion through the impact of society. To follow a particular fashion, one has to adopt certain actions and try to do so. Thus, some students go beyond their limits just to attract the attention of those around them. Eventually, they become desperate instead of resourceful and suffer from depression for being fashionable. On the other hand, the idea is also that the money spent on fashion could be used for other purposes, such as charity and helping the poor.

Fashion creates an unattainable standard for students. All of them want to be attractive and glamorous just like celebrities on TV or in magazines, so they spend tons of your time and money just to create an honest impression on people around them. However, they fail to form a press release most of the time, which results in a coffee shop self-esteem. It also creates a clash of thoughts between them and their friends which will cause jealousy factor and consequently ruin their relationship with the friends. Students start judging people by their appearance and those who cannot devote enough time to their outward appearance are eventually persecuted, which lowers their confidence level to some extent.

Students who focus more on fashion are generally less conscious of their studies. They think that by adopting certain fashion trends, they will achieve a certain distinction among their peers and therefore start to attach less importance to their studies.

There are also positive aspects to being fashionable. For example, when teenagers feel good about their appearance, it gives them a high sense of self-worth and confidence in their personality. In addition, they feel more independent and acceptable in a social context. If students follow a particular trend, it allows them to recognise their own personality by meeting different people in society with equivalent interests and sense of favour. Wearing fashionable clothes shows the status of an individual. People consider an individual to be more progressive if they wear fashionable clothes. Malcolm Barnard says in his book Fashion as Communication, "Fashion and clothing have always been explained as a kind of communication".

Students eventually understand that it is not good for them to follow or imitate others all the time. Instead, they have to find ways to innovate and create their own sense of favour. This helps them to be stronger, independent and imaginative. Fashion is the name of self-expression and proves that people have the freedom to feel good about themselves, which leads to a more prosperous society.

Fashion can be a kind of art and as art is useful to society, so is fashion. Fashion can be an important reason for companies to take a more important position in the expansion of the latest clothes, trends and a better life. We can't distress the fact that fashion is an important part of every student's life. Sometimes it is often the source of things that make life more enjoyable. On the other hand, it is often destructive to the lives of some people. It is therefore best to keep up with fashion, but if it is detrimental to your academic performance, you should stay away from it. In general, fashion is often entertaining, exciting and harmless. Fashion can be a way to make money and provide jobs for thousands of people.

They need to remember that style is admirable within certain limits, but that when the limits are crossed, they face many problems. Their primary responsibility is to recharge with the asset of data rather than chasing the wildness of the deceptive fashion world. There should be a balance between being fashionable and moving away from our roots. Students need to know that they need as much time as possible to enjoy themselves after finishing their studies, so they should devote themselves fully to education, because time and tide wait for no one.

Being fashionable and trendy is simply our own wish, no one can force us to try to it and it is our own decision what proportion and what type of fashion we prefer consistent with the place and requirement. Although this point of 21st century in Pakistan most of the people are suffering from the glamorous and elegant world of fashion, they should not forget our traditions and culture which is the priority and symbol of our country.
